English Taught Program in Smart Service Management

Inaugurated in 2020, the English Taught Program in Smart Service Management (ETPSSM) at Shih Chien University is the first undergraduate program in Taiwan that integrates AI/VR/IT applications with hospitality and tourism theories and practices.

Educational Objectives

The goal of this program is to cultivate interdisciplinary professionals with service expertise and application capacities of smart technology. This program aims to nurture interdisciplinary talents, which is consistent with global trends. The major objectives include:

• Develop professionals for the international hospitality and tourism industry
• Foster talents in service innovation and service design
• Facilitate the combined knowledge in user experience and technical language

Curriculum Design

In general, lower-level courses are theoretical bases, and higher-level courses emphasize hands-on applications. The entire curriculum is designed and developed into three major pillars:

1. Hospitality and tourism industry base: some of the key courses are hospitality management, aesthetics in the hospitality and tourism industry, MICE management, global issues in tourism, etc.
2. Information technology base: some of the key courses are management of information systems, e-commerce, multimedia tools and applications, big data analytics in the hospitality and tourism industry, etc.
3. Smart service base: some of the key courses are introduction to smart service management, design thinking, introduction to artificial intelligence, planning and development of smart hotels, etc.

The courses focus on the hospitality and tourism industry with a high frequency of service encounters to strengthen students’ competencies in service and experience design. Various smart technology courses are designed to enhance students’ professional skill sets by applying digital information and smart technology.
